SARAH MIKENIS (USA, b. 1986) was born in Portland, Oregon and lives and works in Los Angeles. She received her MFA from University of Oregon, Eugene (2016) and was an artist-in-residence at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine (2015).
Mikenis makes sculptural paintings, manipulating canvas to suggest an interaction between body and textile. Her recent series of striped paintings consider the conflict between the surface of a composition and its form. This year, her paintings were included in Transfigured. at Diane Rosenstein Gallery, Los Angeles and in Cover-Up, a solo show at Nationale, Portland. Her paintings were also included in New American Paintings (Juried by Rita Gonzalez), Pacific Coast Issue (2018).
