Sarah Mikenis is a painter based in Brooklyn. She makes sculptural paintings, manipulating canvas to suggest an interaction between body and textile, bringing a Baroque sensibility to geometric abstraction. Her recent series of striped paintings consider the conflict between the surface of a composition and its form.
She received a solo exhibition, New Paintings (2019) at Diane Rosenstein Gallery, and was featured in a two-artist booth at UNTITLED, ART Miami Beach (2018). Her paintings were also included in group shows, Shelter From the Storm (2022), The Creator has a Master Plan (2020), The Seven Year Itch (2019) and Transfigured. (2018) at Diane Rosenstein Gallery.
Sarah Mikenis received her MA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (2009); was an artist-in-residence at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine (2015); then received her MFA from University of Oregon, Eugene (2016). Her paintings were included in New American Paintings #133 (Juried by Rita Gonzalez, LACMA), 2018. She is from Portland, Oregon.
