Jason Stopa at Schneider Museum of Art

Jason Stopa's solo exhibition, Modern Language, will open Thursday September 25 at the Schneider Museum of Art in Ashland, OR.  Spanning the last six years, the paintings in this show highlight Stopa's exploration of abstraction as it relates to architecture, ornamentation, and language. In addition, the artist has completed a new wall painting installation that covers the entire gallery.  A full color hardcover catalogue, with an essay by art historian Elizabeth Buhe, was published on the occasion of the exhibition.

"This exhibition showcases bold, colorful works that treat abstraction like a visual language. Rather than telling one story or pointing back to the artist alone, Stopa’s paintings invite viewers into a playful and open-ended conversation. Inspired by greats like Matisse, Morris Louis, and Frank Stella, Stopa reimagines familiar shapes and styles in his own vibrant way — not copying, but transforming them. His paintings buzz with movement and energy, encouraging us to think about how meaning can shift and evolve through color, form, and gesture. With a fresh take on modern painting, Stopa reminds us that abstraction can still surprise, delight, and speak to the world around us."
