Bob Neuwirth: Amagansett

November 12 - December 17, 2022
Overview

If you’re a painter, you’re always looking at colors.

We are happy to announce Amagansett — a special presentation room installation of works on paper by Bob Neuwirth. In the early-to-mid 1980s, Neuwirth worked between his studios in Amagansett, NY and Venice, CA, where he produced this series of abstract seascapes using pastels on Arches paper. This exhibition will show of a suite of eight drawings from this series, on view Saturday, November 12th through December 10, 2022.

Bob Neuwirth (1939-2022) was a painter, visual artist, songwriter, performer and filmmaker. He began painting as a teenager in Akron, Ohio, and studied at Ohio University, then in Boston, at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, where he kept a painting studio in Cambridge.  In 1965, Neuwirth moved to NYC.

Early abstract paintings and collages were included in shows at the Park Place Gallery curated by Paula Cooper; the Bykert Gallery, curated by Klaus Kertess; and in group shows at The Jewish Museum,  among others. The works on view here were  exhibited in Overs & Unders: Paintings by Bob Neuwirth, 1964 - 2009, a 45-year survey curated in 2011 by Kristine McKenna, at Track 16 in Los Angeles.

The artist died in May, 2022, in Santa Monica, California. The gallery thanks Paula Batson for her assistance with this exhibition.
